Flange Style Load Cells and Torque Transducers

Interface offers several flange type load cells and torque transducers for easy mounting and installation. Interface provides the complete solutions for a flange mount including the adapters, bases, bolts, connector options and cables.

Standard flange designs mount directly to cylinders for stability and accuracy in measurement. We also offer mounting plates for more complex testing systems that use one or more sensors.

The primary advantage of the Interface Flange Load Cell is that the hub of the transducer is mounted using several smaller screws instead of one large central thread. It is easier to preload multiple smaller screws (bolts) than a single central thread. In certain applications it may not be possible to properly preload a central thread due to the torque limits of the load cell. There’s also the important benefit of clocking a load cell fixtures alignment.

The most popular low profile flange mount load cell is the 12X8 Flange Load Cell. This load cell is similar in design to our Interface 1200 series.  Instead of a center hole, the 12X8 has multiple smaller holes making installation easier for certain types of cylinders. The 12X8 is for tension and compression measurement. It is fatigue rated with the ability to survive 100 million fully reversed cycles. The load cell has proprietary Interface temperature compensated strain gages and performance to 0.05%. It is eccentric load compensated with low deflection. The 12X8 is ideal for long-term cycle testing.

Flange style load cells are commonly used in a wide range of applications, from automotive testing to agriculture equipment tests. The variety of flange style solutions are ideal for specialized product designs, including robotics, medical devices, OEM products and equipment requiring secure mounting with sensor capabilities.

In this example you can see how a tractor manufacturer needed to measure the torque and speed of the tractor’s PTO (power takeoff test) system. The purpose of the applied sensor solution was to ensure the PTO was working properly when an implement is attached to the tractor. It also provides ongoing maintenance monitoring for optimum performance. Interface provided a T27 Bearingless Hollow Flange Style Rotary Torque Transducer to measure the tractor’s torque and speed of their tractor’s PTO system.

Pairing your sensor with right type of instrumentation that is best suited for the device and your data requirements is an important consideration.  During event, Keith shares why the BX8 Data Acquisition System and Amplifier provides 8-channel synchronized sampling and internal calculation of axis load values for 6-axis sensors. The BX8 provides high-speed synchronous sampling that is critical for dynamic measurements. It is high resolution and low noise and comes with our BlueDAQ software for data viewing and analysis. There is an option to also use BlueDAQ PRO! with MathScript. Multiple BX8 can be synchronized for use with 12-channel 6-axis sensors and force plates, which are discussed later during the event. In contrast to the BX8, Keith details the Interface BSC4 and shares important features that make it a good instrumentation choice to use with our model 3A, 3AR 3-Axis load cells. It can be used with up to four mV/V or VDC output sensors. It is a compact and convenient instrumentation option, compared to using multiple single-channel amplifiers. Interface Accessories

Cable Assemblies – We provide high-grade cables and connectors to ensure the maximum performance of force and torque systems. This includes standard and custom length shielded cables for connecting transducers to instrumentation.

Calibration Adapters – Our off-the-shelf and custom calibration adapters greatly improve and maintain transducer accuracy. Interface uses high-grade alloy and stainless steel, heat treatments and quality machining practices to ensure our adapters meet your performance needs.

Jam Nuts – In order to ensure strength and performance, jam nuts are utilized to maintain a tight bond between the application. We manufacture our own high-performance jam nuts for flat, parallel surfaces in multiple thread sizes.

Load Buttons – Load buttons are used for Interface LowProfile™, S-Type and Mini Beam Load Cells to convert a universal cell to compression only.

Mating Connectors – To match interconnects between load cells and instruments we provide high-grade, off-the-shelf and custom mating connectors to guarantee the performance of your readings are not compromised by a defunct connection.

Mounting Plates – Mounting is a critical factor in the accuracy and durability of force measurement tools. Our mounting plates are made from the best grade alloy and stainless steel and are machined to the tightest specifications. This ensures the load is properly distributed over the foundation of the supporting structure and provides a prepared surface for the load cell. Mounting plates eliminate the requirement for expansion assemblies in most installations.

RCAL Resistors – Interface RCAL Resistors are high precision components that provide an effective method for checking the calibration of a load cell system in the field or when a means of applying actual forces are unavailable.

Rod End Bearings To reduce alignment errors in tension applications, Interface provides high-grade Rod End Bearings that help couple your load cell to your application solution while maintaining performance.

Thread Adapters – Thread adapters provide flexibility to users when workings with male and female threads of differing sizes. Our thread adapters are manufactured with the best practices to ensure the performance of your transducer is maintained when attached to your force transducer application.

Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) – Interface’s TEDS option provides a force or torque transducer with electronic identification, allows a sensor or an instrument to be “Plug and Play Ready”, meets IEEE 1451.4 Standard for Smart Transducer Interface and is available on new or existing sensors.
