5AR 5-Axis Force/Torque Load Cells and BX6-ETH/CAN 6-Channel CANbus and Ethernet Strain Gage Amplifier

5-Axis Sensor and Ethernet Strain Gage Amplifier Data Acquisition System

The 5AR 5-Axis Force/Torque Load Cell measures forces and moments using four independently wired strain-gage channels. The BX6-ETH/CAN supplies sensor excitation, conditions and digitizes each signal, and transmits the measurement data through Ethernet, CANbus, or UART. The calibration matrix can then convert the channel data into Fx, Fy, Fz, Mx, and My measurements for testing, monitoring, or automation systems.

5AR 5-Axis Force/Torque Load Cells

5-Axis Force Measurement

Force/Torque: 4.5lbf/1.77lbf-in, 11.2lbf/4.4lbf-in, 22.5lbf/8.85lbf-in to 11.2lbf/8.85lbf-in, 22.5lbf/17.7lbf-in, 45.0lbf/35.4lbf-in
Force/Torque: 20N/200mNm, 50N/500mNm, 100N/1Nm to 50N/1Nm, 100N/2Nm, 200N/4Nm

The 5AR 5-Axis Force/Torque Load Cells are ideal for inspection tasks in quality assurance and material testing due to their compact and low-profile design, with a thickness of just 20 mm. This precision force sensor features four independently wired strain gauge measuring springs. The strain gauge signals enable the calculation of axial force (Fz) and bending moments (Mx and My) around the x- and y-axes. Additionally, the sensor’s design allows for the determination of horizontal forces (Fx and Fy) and bending moments based on the distance of the force transmission from the sensor surface. A simple calibration matrix ensures the easy processing of sensor signals, allowing for accurate conversion into forces and moments.

BX6-ETH/CAN 6-Channel CANbus and Ethernet Strain Gage Amplifier

6-Channel Capability

The BX6-ETH/CAN 6-Channel CANbus and Ethernet Strain Gage Amplifier is a 6-channel measuring amplifier for strain gauges with a CAN interface, as well as with Ethernet and UART port 3.3 V. Sensors with full-bridge strain gages are connected via the Sub-D44HD socket. The Sub-D44HD socket makes the BX6-ETH/CAN suitable for connecting model 6A force/torque sensors. The BX6-ETH/CAN is supplied with 9 VDC to 26 VDC via the connection block with spring terminals. The UART port 3.3 V is suitable, for example, for connecting a UART to USB converter or for connecting a modem. The Ethernet port is configured as a “serial port client”, but can be configured at the factory for other protocols. The supply power and bridge supply are galvanically isolated up to a voltage of 2.5 kV. The recording of measurement data is possible both via USB port and via the CANbus with the BlueDAQ software. The BlueDAQ software allows the reading, recording and visualization of measurement data via the CANbus with the help of a “PCAN-USB” converter (available as an accessory).

System Level Calibration

Interface strongly recommends requesting a system-level calibration when purchasing a force measurement sensor with instrumentation. This final step ensures the sensor and instrumentation are properly calibrated and functioning together before leaving Interface.
