Engineers needed a reliable way to test the strength and durability of smartwatch bands. These wearable devices undergo repeated stress during daily use—such as stretching, pulling, and twisting when being worn or removed. To ensure the highest quality and safety standards, the team required a precise method to measure the tensile force required to detach or deform a smartwatch band without damaging the main device or connectors.
An engineer created a Force and Torque Test Machine equipped with Interface’s precision load cell, the 1216 2-Axis Axial Torsion Load Cell, which measures both force and torsion in the same cell. The 1216 is mounted to a flange, which is mounted to an acutator of the testing system to accurately capture the pull forces applied to the smartwatch band.
Using Interface’s force measurement technology, engineers could identify weak points in band materials and optimize design for better durability and comfort. The results helped confirm product reliability and quality assurance for manufacturing.
