There are two basic types of torque transducers: rotary and reaction. A reaction torque transducer measures torque without rotating. It is static. A rotary torque transducer is dynamic, as it rotates as part of the system.

Interface offers a wide range of both types of torque transducers. Specifically, we have dozens of rotary torque transducers with hundreds of capacity and configuration options.  Use Interface’s Torque Transducer Selection Guide to find the suitable sensor for your use case.

We recommend referencing our practical Torque Measurement Primer for detailed technical considerations, including mechanical and installation. We also highlight this valuable resource in our Torque Primer Review Part 2 – Diving Deep into Torque Measurement.

INTERFACE ROTARY TORQUE TRANSDUCERS

There are different types of rotary torque transducers. Some rotary transducers use a set of transformers to carry the excitation voltage onto the shaft and the other to transfer the signal off. Other rotary torque transducers add electronics to the rotating shaft. A more complex approach involves digitizing the torque signal on the rotor.

Rotary torque transducers are either supported on bearings in housing or are bearingless. Bearing-supported designs maintain alignment between the sensor’s rotating and stationary parts. Bearingless sensors require the sensor’s non-rotating part to be held in a precisely fixed position relative to the rotating part.

AxialTQ Bearingless Rotary Torque Transducer

Interface’s AxialTQ is a revolutionary bearingless sensor without contact between the stator and the rotor. The AxialTQ™ Wireless Rotary Torque Transducer measurement system redefines the category in function, accuracy, and customizable compatibility.
