Force Measurement for Space Travel

Customer Need and Challenge

Space travel is one of the most intriguing pursuits in modern culture and enormous investments have been made to reach the dream of navigating the final frontier. From government to private entities such as SpaceX and Blue Origin, the colonization of celestial bodies is becoming a real possibility, maybe even in our lifetime. However, what most people don’t think about when discussing the journey into space is the vast amount of different technologies that go into developing a spacecraft. Continue reading…

Automation and Robotics Demands Absolute Precision

Customer Need and Challenge

Enabling automation and robotics is a delicate process. Robotic arms are often used on the manufacturing and assembly line to take on repetitive tasks or tasks which are too precise or small for the human hand. Because of this, the robotic arm needs to calibrated and tuned to the exact force needed for its specific function. If these machines aren’t tested and refined, the arm could end up breaking the technology it’s handling. Continue reading…

Interface Coil Tubing Load Cells

Customer Need and Challenge

The coil tubing process has been used for decades, but not without its own set of unique challenges. The purpose of the tubing is to protect and optimize the insertion and extraction process. However, there is also a complicated and delicate insertion process for the coil tubing itself. The tubing is forced into the wellbore using a coil tubing injector head at an insertion rate of 50-100 feet per minute. During the injection process, the tubing is subject to damage such as buckling, which creates a failure condition called “lock up.” Continue reading…

Interface Ensures Premium Accuracy and Reliability for Medical Applications

Customer Need and Challenge

Products, devices and machines medical professionals use to keep people healthy, and in some cases, alive, require stringent test, review and clearance from governing bodies before they can be put into practice with a patient. The challenge our customers run into when developing medical products is finding test and measurement equipment accurate enough to manufacture safe and reliable devices which pass test and inspection requirements. Continue reading…

Force Measurement is Reducing Waste and Automating the Consumer Packaging Industry

Customer Need and Challenge

If you have ever wondered how a pill or piece of candy gets a little logo stamped on it without crushing it or how every bag of chips is nearly filled to the same capacity, chances are a load cell or torque transducer was involved. Interface works with hundreds of customers who manufacture a wide variety of machines used in the consumer packaging industry. These machines serve numerous functions including logo stamping, bag weighing, bottle capping, sealing and precision cutting. Continue reading…

Monitoring the Seismic Force of a Suspension Bridge

Challenge

One of the construction contractors, an Interface customer, wanted to find a way to measure the force on the Gerald Desmond Bridge in the event of an earthquake. The goal was to continuously monitor the standard force created by regular traffic, as well as the seismic force before, during, and after earthquakes. Continue reading…

Launching Into Orbit with Interface

Customer Need and Challenge

Space organizations play a critical role in allowing humanity to re-imagine the realm of existence—and no one understands this better than NASA. NASA’s latest efforts have been centered around human deep space exploration, opening new possibilities for scientific missions to places like the Moon, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter. Continue reading…

Protecting Ultra HD Monitors

Understanding Ultra HD Resolution

With the rising popularity of Ultra HD and 4K format video monitors, testing for video output quality is critical. These screens have a resolution of 3840×2160—four times the number of pixels in Full High Definition and eight times as many as Standard Definition. Continue reading…
